TICK BEANS | WHOLE | CRACKED
PACK SIZE
20kg woven polypropylene bags.
Also known as faba, horse or broad beans, tick beans can be fed to pigs as part of a balanced diet. They are a good source of protein with an energy level similar to that of cereal grains. The quality level of tick beans is slightly lower than other sources of feed, due to the low levels of amino acids – methionine and cysteine.
LIMITATIONS
Tick beans have been associated with poor growth in pigs. It is recommended that is it part of a nutritional balanced diet combined with other sources of feed.
Raw tick bean seeds contain levels of anti-nutritional factors such as protease inhibitors, tannins, favism-inducing factors, hemagglutinins and trypsin inhibitors. These anti-nutritional factors are almost completely inactivated by cooking or germination. Heat treatment will also improve the nutritional quality of tick beans.
